| Importance of
Blood Glucose Monitoring |
The
patient may experience the need to adjust insulin dosage when switching from
needle and syringe to an AdvantaJet® needle-free injection system. (Because of
increased absorption with jet injection, there is an increased risk of
hypoglycemia unless insulin dosages are adjusted.) Care should be exercised in
testing blood glucose levels prior to the use of the AdvantaJet® and thereafter
on a regular basis, according to the advice of the physician.
Close
monitoring and recording of values for at least three days prior to injection of
insulin with the AdvantaJet® is recommended. Thereafter, it is recommended that
glucose testing be continued on a regular basis. The actual total daily units of
insulin required may eventually decrease by approximately 10 % to 20 % due to
changes in absorption.
The importance of monitoring blood glucose levels
during the transition to jet injection of insulin is cited in the findings of a
recent study using the AdvantaJet® injector. |
